After years of searching, I finally found the perfect ink sketching tool: a fountain pen fitted with a G-nib, the best type of dip pen nib for manga inking.
Following tradition, I used to insert the dip nib into a holder and constantly struggle with dipping and re-dipping it in ink. Comparing the first stroke of a fresh dip to the last, the line thickness was always uneven, and I won’t even mention the big drop that would sometimes fall from the nib.
Now every pain point is gone: I have a converter to carry ink anywhere, and the feed provides smooth, stable ink flow when I sketch. I cannot ask for more.
While the path to becoming a mangaka is a far-fetched, almost out-of-reach dream for me, I can still use this pen for my daily ink sketching. Now it’s time to return to the basics: practice, practice, and practice, since I have no excuses about the tool anymore.
